The SOCAN Foundation, founded in 1992, is dedicated to fostering musical creativity and promoting a better understanding of the role of music creators in today's society. The Foundation is an independent organization guided by its own board of directors. The board, which consists of composers, songwriters and music publishers, reflects concert music and popular music genres as well as the geographic and linguistic regions of Canada.

SOCAN is the Canadian copyright collective that administers the performing rights of more than 100,000 composer, author and music publisher members by licensing the use of their music in Canada. We collect licence fees on their behalf and distribute royalties to them.

We know there are artists, writers and creative people working in isolation and without recognition in Durham Region. Our Goals To assist you to break through the perceived and real barriers to the public exposure of your work. Through our publication, we will give struggling artisans what may be their first "break" and we will encourage creative souls to keep creating. We will provide a platform for those who may not yet have a fully established body of work and are tentatively starting out. We want to give you a helping hand, and by doing so we will strengthen and encourage our creative community as a whole. To profile those established artists and writers amongst us who have "surfaced", so that they might be an inspiration to those still on their way.
