Melanie Donnelly

Mel's musical chops have taken her as far away as Australia, while here at home she has spent time on tour and in the studio in British Columbia, New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. With keyboard or guitar at hand, and a keen ear for lyrics and melody, she has collaborated with many accomplished artists – like world-class pianist Silvio Pupo, songwriter/songstress Sheryl Edget and musician/songwriter William Crowdis and Kari Mtchell. Her most recent accomplishment, We'll Find a Way, grew out of a desire to spearhead a project that would benefit the environment. Together with Joanna Butler and Catherine Kinsman, she co-wrote the theme song, which has been released as a video featuring Canadian artists Dave Carroll, Kim Wempe, Carmel Mikol, Michael Redden, Chelsea Nisbett and Ian Sherwood. A number of producers and promoters got on board for this worthy endeavour that is benefiting local environmental groups. You can find the CD at HMV in Halifax and the song We'll Find a Way on YouTube. Melanie continues to write and perform in the Halifax area and is working on material for her third CD ‘Where Ever Goes’ to be released this summer 2011.

Crowdis and Genge

Lisa Genge and William Crowdis met at the Halifax Regional Songwriters Group about 2 years ago. Lisa hosts the group for Songwriters Assoc. of Canada. They were both looking to improve on their songwriting skills and decided to team up to write songs. It has worked. William with his amazing guitar skills and an ear for production is the perfect compliment to Lisa's flair for performing the meaningful lyrics that they write.

Peter is an award winning songwriter, who is based in Windsor, and who has performed his songs on radio, television, and at live venues across Canada. He wrote original music for Dan Aykroyd’s production “Tom Paine” and his current song catalogue receives regular air play on local radio stations CBC, CJAM and CHYR. His song “V8 Cars” has just been placed in a soon to be released documentary film about the auto industry. His current project is a collection of songs based on early Canadian historical events. He records as a member of the band “Same Latitude As Rome” with three CD releases since 2007.

Joanna Butler

Her song Sometimes a Daydream won a Nashville contest in 2008, with Kim Copeland Producer. Joanna co-coordinates the Halifax Regional Songwriting Group. She continues to enjoy co-writing and performing her songs with Melanie Donnelly and others in the Halifax Regional Songwriting Group.

Steve Didunyk

Steve is a songwriter, pianist and accordion player from Toronto who writes witty and powerful pop songs. He has produced, played and collaborated with some of Canada's finest artists in writing and recording sessions and high profile shows. By day, Steve works at Canada’s performing rights society - SOCAN, which collects performance royalties on behalf of Canadian songwriters and music publishers. He is an active member of the Songwriters Association of Canada, and a regular at regional songwriting conferences and events. His plans for 2011 include recording more of his original songs and expanding his presence both online and on stage.

Nyanna Parcher

Nyanna is a versatile songwriter, able to work, sing and write in many genres. From sultry jazz sylings, to the singable approachable children's sounds you hear on Pre School Adventure, to rock' n blues tempered with a down home country sensibility, nothing is excluded. As a co-ordinator the York Region RWG, many songs in her repetoire have been written through meeting the challenges set up by the group each month. It was at Humber's prestigious summer songwriting workshop that Nyanna hooked up with producer/writer Rene Flynn, and in the ensuing 3 years since that meeting, the two have written over 80 songs together, including 5 tracks on the children's C.D. The combinations of their talents means that no topic or style is without possibilities.

BJ Laub

BJ is a new SAC member & a versatile musician specializing in percussion, acoustic guitar and vocals. BJ’s love for musical involvement has rapidly grown over the course of the past 3 years and amounts to what we see and hear today. His focus on the creation of his own music and lyrics over the last few years sparked his interest in becoming a member of the Windsor Regional Group. “To my loving wife Katrina, friends, family and all the random ears…I’m not done.”

Mel Farrimond

Mel hails from the shores of (old) Scotland, but is now living and making music in beautiful Nova Scotia. She is an active member of the Songwriters' Association of Canada Halifax group, where she regularly performs and hones original songs and collaborates with local songwriters, most recently Joanna Butler and Melanie Donnelly. She has released an EP, Melancholy, which will be followed in early 2011 by a full-length album. Her songs come from and speak to the heart, and her unique (upside-down) guitar-playing style elicits much curiosity!
